Weather Conditions Affecting Sunday Training

While the weather conditions on a given day may be acceptable for experienced pilots, they may not be ideal for someone learning to fly. We therefore assess the current weather and forecast each Saturday evening and try to guess the chances for training. The decision is posted in the menu bar of all pages of this website. The criteria for scheduling training on Sundays are: average wind speed should not exceed 18 km/h and temperature should not exceed 35 degrees Celsius during the training period. If the expected average wind speed is marginal, the forecasted wind gusts are taken into consideration as well and instructors have the final say.

We use windy.com as a preferred source of weather data, as they include the information from our onsite weather station to produce local forecast information. Windy also provides data from various forecast modelling algorithms for comparison, including the ACCESS model now in use by the Bureau of Meteorology. Combined with live data from our weather station, this information gives us the best approximation of weather conditions for training.

Our weather station feeds live data to both Weather Underground and Windy.com. The following links will take you to more detailed weather information for our location.

You can also download the WS View Plus app for mobile devices from the Apple App store or Google Play to view live data from our weather station. In the app, go to the WU Dashboard and add station ID “IADELA737”.
